Munnuru Kapu
Munnuru Kapu's are primarily concentrated in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. By Occupation they are Farmers. The name Munnuru seems to be of a recent origin, which means three hundred. They were a part of the Telaga community and were the Imperial guard of the Tanjore Nayaks. The Nawab of Hyderabad requested the Tanjavore Nayaks to send a battalion of his best infantry and cavalry for his personal security. The Tanjore Nayak dispatched three hundred Telaga men and their families. The descendants of these three hundred families are now called Munnuru Kapu.
There also seems to be a Traditional Rivalry that existed between the Mudiraj community and the Munnur Kapu community. The Munnuru Kapu's have always been associated with one Kingdom or the other in the form of Interior Palace Guards like Tanjavore Nayaks,Devarakonda, Nizam etc.

Munnurukapu are also called as Patel's, &kapus in the villages of telangana,there main occupation is agriculture, there is no Reddi caste, in olden days Reddi is name given for village headmen, Kapu baliste Reddy ayindu ante.

Only two question to all those Reddy's in telangana state, No.1: " Is your caste Reddy or Kapu"? If it is Reddy then why u people say that u are of Motati Kapu, Gudati Kapu, Pakanati Kapu and Etc. NO.2: if u say that ur caste is kapu and Reddy is only title which is applicable to evey kapu, then by default munnurukapu are also eligible for title Reddy.
As jayasimha said reddy was the title given to protect villagers as time passes its become a rich community then alliances were limited between these village headman families, atleast its true in telangana region as its has its own history from other states. Comparatively gothras and surnames are equal between reddy and kapus

read several books on caste systems in India , during that process i have found some intresting facts about munnurukapu , in kakatiya empire of warangal during rudra deva ruling The Sainyadeksh was Jayapasenani who was a munnurukapu and he was a great warrior and the sisters of jayapasenani was married by rudra deva , and here patel name came for them is actually patella which means land holder and eventually patta has been evolved from patella word only , and in a gotra research most of the gotras of m kapu and remaining kapus , reddy matches
in chandravamshiyuluu book it was clearly mentioned about them described as manneru kapu but some people who wantedly dissapeared the facts related to them .
